Kate Hudson is hated by Yankees WAGs & beloved by fans

As many of you know, I am not in my element when I talk about sports. I could care less about nearly anything involving “balls” (except for, you know, actual balls). I only follow tennis and soccer because I think some of the guys are hot. But if anyone starts talking to me about baseball (or football… or basketball…) my eyes glaze over and I start imagining Clive Owen (and his balls). So it with great trepidation that I cut-and-past this line from the NYDN in the hopes that it makes sense: “[After last night’s game], the Yankees now move on to the ALCS for the first time since 2004, when they were last seen blowing a 3-0 lead to the Red Sox.” So… the Yankees are doing well, yes?

The only reason I know anything about the Yankees and how they’re doing this season (baseball has “seasons” right?) is because Alex Rodriguez is dating Kate Hudson, and this has lead to many gossip stories with a sports edge. There’s been a slew of Kate/A-Rod/Yankees stories lately, and some of them are really juicy. It just goes along with my theory that men gossip about sports like women gossip about celebrities. And when the two meet, it can get really bitchy up in this joint. Take this story from Page Six about how the other Yankees wives-and-girlfriends (WAGs) were told to shut the hell up about Kate because it could affect the Yankees’ game:

The Yankees’ wives and girlfriends have been banned from trashing Kate Hudson after Page Six revealed there was coldness between her and Derek Jeter’s squeeze, Minka Kelly. We told how low-key Kelly disapproved of Hudson’s antics including cheering wildly from the front row and smooching A-Rod all over town. A source said, “The Yankees told the girls to be careful who they spoke to about Kate. They are concerned about the ramifications for the players.”

So, the Yankees’ WAGs don’t care for Kate. Seriously? Does everyone have to revert back to high school on this one? Can’t Kate get some love from the WAGs? Why all the drama? In any case, Yankees fans seem to like Kate and her positive influence on A-Rod’s game. The NYDN ran a piece that was just fans praising Hudson, with quotes like “A-Rod’s got his groove on….I’ll give Kate Hudson the credit for this” and “A beautiful lady like that? Of course having her is an incentive.” Who knew? Kate Hudson, fan favorite. Now if she could only translate Yankees’ fan-love into box office.
