Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes took home his second career MVP award at the 12th annual NFL Honors on (Feb. 9) Thursday night. He received 48 of the 50 first-place votes, with Jalen Hurts and Josh Allen each receiving a vote apiece.
In just his fifth year as a starter, Mahomes joins nine other players in winning the award multiple times. His MVP season surpassed his previous one in 2018, as he racked up 5,614 total yards to break the record for the most combined yards in a season. He also led the league in touchdown passes (41) and QBR (77.6).

Besides Mahomes, the Jets were the big winners of the night, as Garrett Wilson and Ahmad “Sauce” Gardner took home Offensive and Defensive Rookie of the Year, respectively. They became the first teammates to sweep the category since the Saints in 2017.
Giants head coach Brian Daboll took home Coach of the Year thanks to the turnaround he orchestrated in New York. Finishing 4-13 a year ago, Daboll led his team to a 9-7-1 record, a playoff berth and a playoff win in his first year at the helm. 49ers defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans joined Daboll in adding to his trophy case, taking home Assistant Coach of the Year.
A big reason for Ryans’ success was Nick Bosa, who took home Defensive Player of the Year after leading the league with 18.5 sacks. On the opposite side of the ball, the Vikings’ Justin Jefferson won Offensive Player of the Year thanks to his 1,809 yard, eight touchdown season. Jefferson also took home Moment of the Year for his one-handed grab against the Bills in Week 9.

Rounding out the season’s awards, the Seahawks’ Geno Smith won Comeback Player of the Year, leading Seattle to the playoffs in the best season of his nine-year career by throwing for 4,282 yards and 30 touchdowns. The NFL also chose the next Hall of Fame class, as nine players will get their names immortalized in Canton.

Hosted by Kelly Clarkson, the NFL’s version of The Oscars also featured George Kittle and Kirk Cousins singing to the tune of Clarkson’s “Since U Been Gone”, as well as Damar Hamlin giving a heartfelt speech while being joined on stage by the Bills’ and Bengals’ medical staffs and staff from the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

The night concluded with Dak Prescott winning the Walter Payton Man of the Year, the fourth Cowboy to win the award. Through his Faith Fight Finish foundation, Prescott has helped raise funds and awareness for cancer as well as expanding to include suicide prevention and mental health awareness.
